Hemorrhoids

hemorrhoids hemorrhoids relief

Hemorrhoids are commonly known as piles. They are swollen veins in the anal canal and lower rectum which are similar to varicose veins. By the age of 50, approximately half of the adults have hemorrhoids. An estimated 10 million Americans suffer from hemorrhoids every year.

In modern medicine, there are many etiological factors for the occurrence of hemorrhoids commonly suggested hypothesis was the increased vein reassure due to the erect posture of man and as it is not seen in animals as common. There is also association with portal hypertension and repeated infections of the anal lining and repeated trauma due passage of hard feces are among them. Recent scientific research has suggested the association with poor diet and low dietary fiber causing hard stools to increase the risk of hemorrhoids. A fiber-deficient diet results in a prolonged gut transit time, which is associated with the passage of smaller, harder stools that require more straining to expel. The presence of a hard-fecal mass in the rectum could obstruct venous return, resulting in engorgement of the anal veins with the act of straining at stool or sitting for prolonged periods on the lavatory with a relaxed perineum, causing a disturbance of vascular flow. Also, the occurrence of hemorrhoids increases with aging, pregnancy, straining at defecation.

Hemorrhoids are a common condition nearly affecting 3 out of 4 adults at a certain point in life and most of them do not cause any symptoms and are not even noticed. Sometimes they may cause itching, discomfort, and bleeding. Hemorrhoids increase the risk of clotting u of blood also known as thrombus formation which can be quite painful. Hemorrhoids have many symptoms based on the pathological features. They are graded based on the presentation and complications. Grade 1 hemorrhoids present with bleeding, grade 2 resent with bleeding and a protrusion of a lump at defecation but spontaneously reduce, grade 3 resent with bleeding and a protruding lump which need manual reductions and grade 4- the prolapse lump cannot be reduced.

Bleeding, as the name hemorrhoid is the earliest symptom. The nature of the bleeding is characteristically separate from the passage of stool and is seen either on the paper on wiping or as a fresh splash in the pan. Bleeding does not cause pain. Itching or irritation in your anal region, pain or discomfort, swelling around your anus, and a lump near your anus, which may be sensitive or painful are the symptoms which should alert you about hemorrhoids.

First and second-degree hemorrhoids are managed conservatively and by injecting sclerosing agents such as almond oil or phenol into the dilated veins which causes obstruction of the veins. Other grades need surgical interventions and all these methods are associated with many adverse effects. The surgery itself carries the risks and sclerosing agents if mixed into blood vessels are harmful. phenolic compounds are carcinogenic.
Modern research focuses on natural and alternative treatment options as the risk of hemorrhoids can be simply eliminated by natural plant components that soften stools and promote healthy bowel habits.

Calcarea Fluorica, Ferr Phos, and Kali Mur have been significantly effective in randomized control trials in reducing the hardness of stool due to its fiber contents and in patients with grade four hemorrhoids with infections they have increased the recovery and healing making the grade 4 get reduced to grade two and three hemorrhoids.

Hamamelis virginiana has been used since ancient time in treating piles. The loss of vascular integrity is associated with the pathogenesis of both hemorrhoids and varicose veins. In research studies, it has been shown that, Hamamelis virginiana extracts have been shown to improve microcirculation, capillary flow, and vascular tone, and to strengthen the connective tissue of the blood vessels making them less susceptible in developing hemorrhoids. Oral supplementation of this extract has significantly reduced the side effects and costs associated with surgical interventions for hemorrhoids.

Nux vomica extracts which are rich in fiber has shown to reduce the incidence of constipation and softening the passage of stools. This help reduces bleeding and pain associated with hemorrhoids. It also, help reduce the complications of hemorrhoids and prevent the progression of hemorrhoids.
